SUMMARY:Jazz At The Joint: Fareed Haque
DESCRIPTION:Born in 1963 to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother\, Fareed’s extensive travels and especially long stays in Spain\, France\, Iran\, Pakistan\, and Chile exposed Haque to different kinds of music from a very early age. While this natural eclecticism has become a hallmark of Haque’s music\, it was repeated visits to Von Freeman’s Chicago jam sessions that gave Haque a grounding in the Chicago blues and jazz traditions. The 1981 recipient of North Texas State University’s Jazz Guitar Scholarship\, Haque spent a year studying with renowned jazz guitarist and pedagogue Jack Peterson. Fareed’s growing interest in the classical guitar led him to transfer to Northwestern University\, where he completed his studies in classical guitar under David Buch\, John Holmquist\, and Anne Waller. \nSoon after his transfer to NU\, Haque came to the attention of multi-instrumentalist Howard Levy and joined his latin-fusion group Chevere. Thru Levy\, Haque was introduced to Paquito D’Rivera and began a long and fruitful relationship with the Cuban NEA Jazz Master. Numerous world tours and recordings including Manhattan Burn\, Celebration\, Havana Cafe\, Tico Tico\, Live at the MCG were to follow. Especially notable is the classic and award winning “Reunion” featuring Haque along with Arturo Sandoval\, Danilo Perez\, Giovanni Hidalgo\, Mark Walker\, and David Fink. \nThru D’Rivera\, Haque was brought to the attention of Sting\, who had just begun his record label Pangaea. Sting invited Haque to join the label where he released 2 critically acclaimed recordings\, “Voices Rising” and “Manresa”. Haque toured briefly with Sting\, including notable appearances at The Montreux Jazz Festival\, as well as NBC’s Michelob Presents Sunday Night with David Sanborn\, but his own career demands led Haque in other directions.

DESCRIPTION:As a recording and touring artist\, James has touched people with his warm baritone voice and distinctive style of guitar-playing for more than 50 years\, while setting a precedent to which countless young musicians have aspired. Over the course of his celebrated songwriting and performing career\, he has sold more than 100 million albums\, earning gold\, platinum and multi-platinum awards since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1968. In 2015\, he released Before This World\, the first-ever #1 album of his illustrious career. James has won multiple GRAMMY Awards\, has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and the prestigious Songwriters Halls of Fame and in February 2006\, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences selected him its MUSICARES Person of the Year. DESCRIPTION:Finger Food is a feast not only for guitar lovers\, but also for anyone with a passion for acoustic music. The guitarists perform “in the round” and trade songs and stories about their compositions and their approach to the guitar in a casual concert setting. The music focuses on contemporary instrumental American Fingerstyle Guitar with folk\, jazz\, Celtic\, classical and blues influences. \n  \nFULL BIO: \nThe guitarists are very different stylistically and these different styles contribute to an evening of broad musical tastes. They will play solo\, duets and trio work.  The guitarists also will be performing on some very unique custom built instruments and historic instruments. \nDanny Dozier is a legendary guitarist in the state of Arkansas. Danny’s solo performances showcase his wide range of guitar styles and his superb choice of material. He has performed at the Ozark Folk Center in many configurations over the years\, fronts the Danny Dozier Band at gigs around the state and the country and is the two-time winner of the Merle Travis Fingerstyle Guitar Championship at the Ozark Folk Center. Danny has just released a CD with fiddler extraordinaire and producer Tim Crouch. \nSteve Davison is a Little Rock guitarist who performs on the 6 and 12 string guitar. He tours the country with artists such as Ken Bonfield and Peter Janson. They have performed at acoustic venues around the country and shared the stage artist such as Larry Coryell\, Muriel Anderson\, Peter Janson\, Tim Farrell\, Dakota Dave Hull\, Ken Bonfield\, Doug Young\, Teja Gerken\, Tim Sparks and other guitarists.. Steve was also the winner of the 2005 Arkansas Acoustic Music Festival in the solo category and has been a featured artist on AETN Presents. Steve has performed at the Montreal Guitar Festival\, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in California and the Memphis Guitar Festical in Tennessee. In 2015 Steve won the Ozark Folk Center\, Merle Travis Fingerstyle Guitar competition in the contemporary section. Steve was chosen Guitarist of the Year for 2019 by the Arkansas Country Music Associatio. Micky was a runner up at the Merle Travis Fingerstyle Guitar Championship at the Ozark Folk Center and was a familiar face at Acoustic Sounds Café in the past in Little Rock. Micky has an extensive repertoire and is an accomplished player of the guitar and the banjo.
